EXPLAIN WHAT A DP DOES FOR THOSE UNAWARE?
A Director of Photography is basically in charge of taking the look the Director wants for a film and putting it on-screen. We're in charge of lighting, color, camera movement, look, and mood, as well as the day-to-day physical act of making the film.

How did you get involved in REPO?
Darren Bousman and I have been friends for years, having worked on several smaller short films and commercials together. When REPO came around, it was the perfect opportunity for us to collaborate together on a feature film.

What is your favorite REPO song and why?
I have to say I'm a huge fan of "Night Surgeon" - the music is aggressive and strong, and it really captuyres the duality of Nathan's character - this constant battle between the human side of himself that he knows is true, and the violent side he is forced to channel yet fills him with such shame and misery.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SCENE? Explain why.
There are so many, but I'd have to say the final scene between Nathan and Shilo during and after "I Didn't Know I'd Love You So Much". It's such a beautiful, tragic, yet hopeful moment between them, and their performances, both vocally and dramatically, are absolutely outstanding. It was also such a strong scene in terms of look; the bold reds and blues contracsting against one another, and the sweetness that exists, even though everyone is covered in blood!

How many times have you seen REPO?
At least a dozen, between screenings, during it's theatrical run, and on Blu-Ray. Even thought I shot the film, there are still nuances that appear to me every time I see it.

Do you have any CRAZY REPO experiences? Share an onset story
When we were shooting "Chase The Morning" we were all excited about this great scene introducting Shilo and Mag to one another, a scene that covers so much history and emotion, with this amazing contrast between warm and cool light and tones, with elegant camera movement, high contrast, and great visual effects and wind blowing leaves all around. Then the set caught on fire.

Can you talk about the process of attacking the look of the film?
One of the greatest things about the world of REPO is how there were no rules - we were creating this fantastic, comic book world where we were free to explore different modds and looks with no regard for reality. We had no restrictions in terms of color or tone - it was a cinematographer's dream as our palate was only restricted by the power of our imaginations.

What was the most complicated scene to film? Why?
Easily the most complicated scene to film was the film's operatic finale. There were so many actors, so much story to cover, and so much blood that the week we had to film it felt like it needed to be a month! We got through it and I think photographed something really special, but there were definitely many challenges due to how little time we had and how limited our resources were.

How was it to work with Darren Bousman?
Darren is an incredibly unique person and director. He has a really strong commitment to the visuals in his film, and if I didn't get it right the first time, you'd better be sure I'd nail it the second time. He's aggressive without being unkind, and of all the directors I've worked with, he's one of my favorite as you always know where you stand - every decision is a strong one, there is little-to-no mind changing, just a singular vision that was the only way a film like REPO could ever be made.

What upcoming projects do you have that fans can look forward to?
I just wrapped "Open House" with Anna Paquin, Tricia Helfer, Brian Geraghty, Rachel Blanchard and Stephen Moyer. I'm also currently prepping "Mother's Day" for Darren Bousman, a remake of the seminal Troma film - but this time the action, drama, and violence are really amped-up - it's an exciting filme that I'm sure all REPO and SAW fans will be very much into.
